Featured Caddie of the Month: Rachel Bradley |
 |
Place of birth: Wheaton, IL
Number of years serving as a caddie: Four years I think

Academic history and future: Graduated from Wheaton North in '09, currently attending Judson University and thinking about pursuing a masters in Counseling.

Major field of study: My major is Youth Ministry with a concentration in social services, and a minor is Psychology.

Long term career goals: While I want to work with high school students in a church at a high capacity, I also would like to work with "at risk" students. Probably at an in-patient facility leading counseling and group sessions, maybe even working with art therapy.

Describe your current responsibilities as an employee: Pick the golf balls at the driving range, fill divots, clean up and reset the range for the next day.

You are challenging a paradigm with your seasonal employment here at Cantigny. Please describe your current responsibilities and share with us any hurdles you've faced as an employee. My job with Turf Care varies from day to day. I usually take care of the Academy at Cantigny where I cut the greens and rake bunkers every day then cut the approaches three times a week. I love finishing and being able to look at everything I have done and how it turned out. It‘s a good feeling. With the extra time I go and fill in divots on Hillside. That is not my favorite but then I get to talk to the other caddies that work on Hillside with me and we have fun together.
If by paradigm you are referring to being the only girl, I love being there and working my tail off. With everything I do I try to be the best and I love outdoing the boys.

How would you answer a young person if they came to you seeking counsel on how to get involved with us and the attributes necessary for success? 1) Apply to be a caddie early! Probably December. 2) To be successful: smile; learn everything you can from the people you caddie or work for. Show respect, always give 110%, practice saying yes, be flexible. Always show integrity and respect the others around you. Work hard for what you get and appreciate what you are given.

After serving as a caddie and a seasonal employee, what would you say you have gained by staying connected to Cantigny Golf and the McCormick Foundation: Cantigny has been an excellent place to learn many things. I started when I was 14, so caddying was my first job. I learned about responsibility and have also met many people while caddying who have encouraged me and taught me. The other people who work at Cantigny are the best though. They are some of the nicest people I have ever met. Cantigny is truly one of the best places to work.

Name your favorite sports team and favorite athlete: I‘m an all-around Chicago fan but I do love the Cubs! I think the former head coach of the Colts Tony Dungee is a great guy. I read his book this summer. In everything he does he tries to follow the Lord.

Name your favorite musical performer: Maybe Kenny Chesney. Although after my friend made me see the Justin Bieber movie I do think he is pretty cool too.

What is your best score for nine holes: 42, I have shot that many times but never lower. I‘ll break it soon.
P.S. I got a hole in one July 4th 2007 on hole #7 at Cantigny Youth Links with my Dad and little sister Sarah present. It could not have gotten any better than that. My Dad (who taught me everything I know about golf) was really excited for me and a little jealous.
