Featured Caddie of the Month: Dan Westergaard |
 |
Place of birth: Kona, Hawaii

Number of years serving as a caddie: 4 (and 3 seasons as an employee)

Academic history; high school, college and graduate school if planned: 2011 Graduate of WWS High School, Indiana University- Bloomington, Kelley School of Busi-ness, Class of 2015, M.B.A Undecided

Major field of study and why: Business Management, Finance. I have always been interested in the aspects of run-ning a successful business. Since I was young, I loved count-ing and making money. Most kids grow up pretending to be super heroes like Batman or Superman, but I was a little different. I called myself the 'Moneyman.'

Long term career goals: I plan on obtaining a job at a Chicago area bank or finance firm right after college. After working a few years in Chicago I plan to move to Colorado and start my own financial firm for personal portfolio management.

You recently were awarded an Evans Foundation Scholarship. Please describe your feelings when the acceptance arrived at your home: The day I finally received the large white envelope was a day much anticipated and after opening that letter and reading the lines "I am pleased to inform you, you have been awarded an Evans Scholarship." I knew my future was forever changed. I was both ecstatic and entirely relieved to be awarded the scholarship.

Describe the expectations of an Evans Scholar while in school and beyond: The expectations include academic achievement during the collegiate years as well as active involvement in house activities (e.g. recreational sports teams, volunteering in the community, and serving on the house executive board.) Further, we are expected to maintain the four pillars of an Evans Scholar, which include Scholarship, Leadership, Chapter Living, and House Main-tenance. After our time in the collegiate setting we are expected to continually give back to the foundation and maintain status as members of the Par Club as well as involvement in the Western Golf Association.

After serving as a caddie and a seasonal employee, what would you say you have gained by staying connected to Cantigny Golf and the McCormick Foundation: First, the McCormick Foundation and Cantigny Golf have provided me the opportunity to apply for, and be awarded the most influential scholarship in the nation. Second, the people I have met through the Cantigny family have provided lasting friendships, networking opportunities as well as job and people skills that will be tremendously important for my future.

Name your favorite sports team and favorite athlete: Chicago Bulls, Tim Tebow

Name your favorite musical performer: O.A.R.

What is your best score for nine holes: 41

Name the team you expect to win this year’s employee challenge: The Evans Scholars (Daniel Wester-gaard & Tyler Ester)

At Cantigny we are dedicated to making the game of golf enjoyable and exciting for our junior golfers. This year's Junior Open will provide nearly 100 young golfers a full day of fun, friends, and enthusiastic competition.
The Cantigny Junior Open is a competition for golfers ages 6-18. Held Monday, June 13, at Cantigny Golf s main course and Youth Links, the tournament includes range balls, lunch buffet, prizes, trophies, and tough competition at an affordable price.
Junior golfers compete against other golfers of their own age group for the coveted claret jug trophy. Age groups are 6-9, 10-12, 13-15, and 16-18 years old. In the event of a tie for the Championship, a "sudden death" playoff will begin shortly after all scores are posted. In last year's 10-12 boys division, spectators lined the fairway to see Sean McCaffrey capture his age group in a sudden death playoff victory.
For more information or to register for the 10th Annual Junior Open please contact the Golf Shop at 630-260-8197 or register online at www.CantignyGolf.org.
